There are many common rental property issues during the winter that you need to be aware of so you can avoid them. Leaks, pests, and frozen pipes are all common issues. If they do happen, there are ways to fix the damage.
Common Rental Property Issues: Leaks
Roof leaks are a common problem during the winter. You should take some preventative steps before the wintertime to try to avoid any leaks. You can have a professional come and look at your roof and let you know if there are any problem areas. You are trying to avoid any ice dams, clogged gutters, a low slope roof, or structural water damage. Each of these things can cause some serious damage to your roof and cause leaks on the inside of your home. If your roof does happen to leak, there are ways to fix the damage, but you should try to avoid any damage from forming.
Another common problem during the winter are pests. Pests try to find a warm place and will enter your home any way they can. Sealing cracks on the outside can prevent serious pest invasions. You can have your home checked for any places where pests might be present and have them sealed. Pest control can be overlooked during the winter, but it shouldn’t be forgotten.
Common Rental Property Issues: Frozen Pipes
As temperatures begin to fall, the water in your pipes will freeze. Water pipes are vulnerable to freezing and can be a major issue during the winter. It’s more than an inconvenience because the pipes are at risk of rupturing and can lead to a leak or flooding. You will need to keep your water temperature at a specific temperature so that you can avoid freezing pipes. If your pipes freeze, then there are some steps you can take to reduce the potential damage and help melt the ice. You can turn your water on. The running water will help melt the ice, and you can apply heat directly to the frozen pipe. You can fix a frozen pipe, but it’s better to just fully avoid the situation.
The winter can be an exciting and beautiful time of year, but if you are having household issues, your winter fun might be spoiled. You should try to avoid leaks, pests, or frozen pipes. If you are aware of the problem areas, then you’ll be able to avoid them.
