More and more people are becoming aware of their impact on the environment and they recognize that there are steps that can be taken to live more sustainably. As the owner of a rental property, you can actually foster sustainability among your renters. All it takes are a few changes around your property.
Offer Electric Vehicle Chargers
Currently there is a movement to switch from gasoline powered cars to electric cars. This movement is slow moving and it is partially due to the lack of charging stations available. By providing EV charging stations, you can contribute to the movement and encourage it to grow. Offering EV chargers also attracts tenants with electric cars and it can also help you to retain those tenants.
Promote Sustainability With Your Rental Property: Install Solar Energy
One of the best ways to promote sustainability is by switching to solar energy at your rental property. Solar power positively impacts the environment in several ways. First, it decreases your dependability on fossil fuels. This alone helps to avoid increased air pollution. You also have the opportunity to save water, which is the source of many other renewable energy types. Solar panels rely solely on the sun and most of all they save on energy bills. Solar power is now cheaper than ever. The average cost of a solar energy system fell 55% between 2010 and 2018. As an added bonus, solar panels can make you eligible for a tax credit which saves you even more money.
Promote Sustainability With Your Rental Property: Install Water Saving Appliances
A lot of water is wasted on daily activities. One of the largest culprits is toilets. Current toilets take around 1.6 gallons of water per flush while older models can use 6-7 gallons. This is highly inefficient. Instead of installing new toilets, however, you can install dual flush converter kits. Dual flush toilets use different amounts of water for liquid and solid waste. That way you aren’t wasting as much water per flush. Another way you can conserve water is by installing low flow shower heads and faucets. These fixtures use less water per minute, but they also use an aerator which adds air to the water so you don’t notice a difference in the pressure. These simple changes to your appliances can make a huge difference.
A sustainable property can do a great deal for the environment. You can cut down on waste and reduce pollution. Making these and other changes at your property can promote sustainability among your renters and encourage better habits.
