Keeping up with the critical components of your property is kind of overwhelming at times. There are lawns to mow and bushes to trim. There’s a driveway to pressure wash and eaves to dust. There are garages to organize. Those are just outdoors! With so much to do, what is more important? What are the most critical components for busy homeowners to maintain?

Critical Components of Your Property That Require Regular Maintenance: The Foundation

Foundation problems can damage your house permanently, but they are fairly simple to prevent, with care. You need to make sure your shrubs are far enough away from the house for water drainage, and that moisture levels are kept in the dry range underneath as well. Pay close attention if there are any foundation cracks, and repair quickly.

The Roof

Just because it’s over your head doesn’t mean you can neglect to pay attention to this important portion of your home! Any loose or lost shingles must be replaced immediately, or your home could be permanently damaged by mold! Likewise, roofs should be swept to clear leaves, pine straw, and debris, so they do not create ice dams in winter, which can cause cracks and breaks. The decking boards are the most sensitive parts of your roof. This is the layer between your shingles and your attic space, which forms an additional barrier. If you are seeing leaks in your home, or water spots, most likely your decking needs repair.

Critical Components of Your Property That Require Regular Maintenance: The Water Heater

Few things are more frustrating than going to take a nice hot shower and finding it to be lukewarm, at best. Checking on your water heater is an important and often forgotten part of home maintenance. If you hear rumbles or have rusty water, it’s time for a check. That might not be your well– it could be your water heater! It’s important to have a professional come out and check the water heater if it has any leaks or if there is visible water underneath it.

Your home keeps you safe, and protects not only your family and pets but your future! Knowing how to protect it is part of being a good homeowner. While having a nice yard looks great, having a maintained roof, water heater, and foundation goes unnoticed unless there’s a problem. Make sure you are protected from future issues and enjoy your beautiful home.
