Property Improvements That Pay for Themselves

Sometimes there are investments that, while expensive at first glance, can save you a lot of money in the long run. Usually, within a matter of months, they even pay for themselves. Here are some property improvements that can help you pinch some pennies.

Property Improvements That Pay for Themselves: Low-Flow Toilets

Low-flow toilets are great for a lot of reasons. They help save water, and thus make a small contribution towards saving the planet. But they also save a lot of money on your water bill. After all, the biggest sources of water used in your house are probably your showers and your toilets. While you might notice a lack of water pressure on a showerhead or faucet that was meant to save water, a low-flow toilet will still get the job done. And it will save you money while doing it! The only potential problem comes from those occasional heavy-duty loads – when it might struggle a little bit to flush. But if you have a plunger handy it shouldn’t be a problem.

Renewable Energy

There are lots of options to explore with renewable energy. They might be generally considered a bit more expensive to install and maintain, but they make an enormous difference. Solar energy is one of the most common options. You can install panels on your roof or in your yard (provided it’s not likely to receive shade often) and then live off the energy supply. You can either do a hybrid system with your home’s standard electrical sources or go full solar! While less common, wind or geothermal energy sources are also possible – depending on your location. Geothermal can cut energy by up to 70% for your home.

Property Improvements That Pay for Themselves: Modern Light Bulbs

If you haven’t changed your light bulbs for a good few years, you might be surprised by the leaps and bounds that the technology has taken. The most modern, high-end, up-to-date light bulbs you can get save a decent amount of money on your electrical bill. Many of them use LED lights. While not soft or natural, LEDs use relatively little energy to shine extremely bright. You could also consider light tubes – which can be installed in your walls or ceiling in order to let in natural light.

Little by little you can make your property an eco-friendly paradise. You can also make it cheaper and more efficient to live in. And while it might take some investment of time, money, and labor in the short-term, it’s sure to make that back and more in the coming years.
